A long history of community activities

Nestlé has a very long history of community activities and support of charitable projects throughout the world. It is part of our company culture and principles that we act responsibly in the communities in which we operate.

For a company to be successful in the long term and create value for its shareholders, it must also create value for society. We call this Creating Shared Value (CSV). Creating Shared Value encourages businesses to create economic and social value simultaneously by focusing on the social issues that they are uniquely capable of addressing.

Nestlé has a very long history of community activities and support of charitable projects throughout the world. It is part of our company culture and principles that we act responsibly in the communities in which we operate. We support projects in the community that focus on our company strategies of nutrition, health and wellness and sustainability. We want to ensure that all the community work undertaken by Nestlé has a consistent approach and that our activities ultimately make a difference to the communities in which we have offices and factories.

In 2011 our UK employees also took park in fundraising activities for our Charity of the Year, Alzheimer’s Society, raising over £400,000 in just nine months. Employees in Ireland committed to raise €30,000 in 2011 for Irish charity The Jack and Jill Foundation. In 2011, in addition to our Charity of the Year, we continued our support for the Make Space for Health and PhunkyFoods initiatives, which are helping young people across the UK to learn about the benefits of good nutrition and healthy lifestyles.

On May 19, 2011 Nestle hosted its third Creating Shared Value Forum in Washington D.C. in partnership with the Atlantic Council. The Forum provided a platform for global business leaders and top government officials to offer fresh thinking on how businesses and governments can work together to close the gap between commercial needs and development goals.
